In 1917 the Aarhus Art Building was founded as a limited company on the initiative of the board of the Aarhus Art Society of 1847. The building was designed by architect A. Høeg-Hansen in a national-classic style. In the years following, the Aarhus Art Building played an important role as an exhibition space for modern art – the artists from the so called Grønningen-generation plus artists from Charlottenborg in Copenhagen.
Today the Aarhus Art Building, with its 1.000 square meters exhibition space and its architecture, layout and inflow of light, has grown into an optimal exhibition space for contemporary art.
On the first Sunday in each exhibition period the Aarhus Art Building offers a free guided tour once admission has been paid. The guided tours last about one hour. Afterwards you can enjoy a free cup of coffee or tea in the café.
